OUT’n’BACK Weekend by anny carmat

18/11/2025

I've known Míra from Anny Carmat virtually, i.e. online, for quite a long time now.

We haven't met in person yet, but I like the things he makes, his approach to traveling, I enjoy reading his travel notes, and we've exchanged a few messages online from time to time. When I received an invitation from him for this weekend in the Ore Mountains, I didn't hesitate and just prayed that there wouldn't be any fuck-ups at work that would prevent us from participating in this event.

For various reasons, it was also going to be our first time sleeping outside this year, so it was also an opportunity to try out our new camping equipment, which was a kitchenette and a cooler, but more on that later.

The meeting and first encounter with the other members of the expedition was near the village of Přebuz. In addition to us and Míra, his friend, fellow traveler, and court photographer František arrived, as well as Michal with his son Maxík and Petr with Linda, their daughter Majda, and their dog Kaštánek. All in all, there were five crews, consisting of three Outbacks, one new Forester, and our Crosstrek.

Míra, who obviously knows the Ore Mountains quite well, took us on some really nice roads and, among other things, brought us to the former Rolava mine, which we explored. I will leave a link to information about the history of this place here.

By the way, Míra had brought garbage bags with him, so we managed to at least partially clean up the mess.

We stopped for lunch at the Ryžovna Brewery and continued on to the place where we planned to camp for the night.

That place was the Krušnohorský bivak. A really beautiful and well-maintained site, which can be found on the bezKempu website. We were welcomed by the owner, who immediately gave us lots of information about the local wolves and how farmers coexist with them. It was quite interesting to hear about the different approaches to wolves among individual farmers.

We made a fire, roasted something for dinner, watched the beautiful sunset, talked for a long time, and then went to bed. I had planned to take a lot of photos and videos, but in the end, I didn't really get around to it.

In the morning, we had a fantastic breakfast from the grill, chatted, and slowly it was time to start packing our equipment and getting ready for the trip home.

I would also like to mention our two new pieces of camping equipment, which were a kitchenette and a cooler. Both were great again. The kitchen was great, spacious, and at the ideal height, and we stuffed a total of eight cooling inserts into the cooler, along with lots of food and drinks, and everything inside stayed perfectly cool from early Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon. So we definitely recommend it.

Finally, I would like to thank Míra from Anny Carmat once again. For coming up with the whole idea, organizing everything, and giving us all the opportunity to meet in person. And he even gave each of us gifts.

We look forward to seeing you all again sometime.
